Legend-Dairy (also known as Pasture Gold) is a small family dairy farm that has been producing fresh, unprocessed milk on Kauai since 2011. The herd began with a single Jersey cow named Sugar in Kealia Valley, and has grown through the selective crossbreeding of Jersey, Guernsey, and Brown Swiss lines. Over 15 years, the farm developed genetics specifically adapted to Hawaii's climate and local grasses. Fresh dairy products are made available to members through a herdshare program.
The farm's cows are 100% grass-fed and rotationally grazed. Rotational grazing is central to how the farm manages land and herd health: cows are regularly moved to fresh pasture, which reduces selective grazing, improves soil organic matter, strengthens root systems, and keeps the herd on a steady plane of nutrition. Through selective breeding across the original Jersey, Guernsey, and Brown Swiss bloodlines, the farm states it has developed a herd that is 100% vaccine free. The farm also states that 100% grass-fed unprocessed milk is superior to large-scale store-bought organic milk.
