Year-round CSA vegetable farm with customizable weekly harvest boxes from Independence, MO.
Where the Redfearn Grows Natural Farms is a family farm run by Dave and Sheri Redfearn, growing vegetables since 2009. We offer a weekly CSA subscription starting at $36.50 per week, with multiple pickup locations across the Kansas City area. Unlike a fixed-share CSA, our program lets members choose the contents of their own box each week from whatever we are harvesting. We grow year-round, including through the cold Missouri winter, and raise a wide range of produce: leafy greens, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, root vegetables, fresh herbs, ginger, turmeric, and much more. Members receive weekly farm emails with recipes and storage tips, plus access to a private Facebook group for cooking inspiration and support.
We describe our standards as 'more than organic.' We reject all synthetic chemical pesticides, synthetic herbicides, synthetic fungicides, petroleum-based fertilizers, and GMO seeds. Feeding the soil is our core focus: we apply copious amounts of locally sourced organic compost made from recycled Kansas City-area food and lawn wastes, verified free from chemical residues, as well as on-farm compost from crop residues. We also use composted manure, kelp meal, and fish emulsions for added nutrients. Cover crops including buckwheat, winter rye, and field peas add organic matter and fix nitrogen. Thick organic straw mulch conserves water, suppresses weeds, and feeds soil microorganisms as it breaks down. Crop rotations with deep-rooted crops help bring up minerals from the Missouri subsoil, and we limit tillage and bed compaction to support healthy soil structure.
