Modern Mexican restaurant with Texas influences, an extensive agave spirits program, and a dinner menu built around seasonal ingredients.
Comedor is a modern Mexican restaurant in downtown Austin led by award-winning Chef Philip Speer. The dinner menu spans tacos, crudos, tostadas, flautas, and wood-fired proteins alongside vegetable-forward sides and Mexican-inspired desserts. The space was designed by architect Tom Kundig. Comedor has been recognized as Best New Restaurant in Texas by Texas Monthly and Best New Restaurant in the United States by both Esquire and Robb Report, and has been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Condé Nast Traveler. The restaurant also received recognition at the Texas Michelin Guide ceremony in November 2024. Reservations are available through OpenTable, and the restaurant offers group dining. Comedor sources organic and sustainable ingredients through Austin-area farmers. Named producers appear directly on the menu: beef comes from Dean and Peeler, chicken from Mary's, pork from Berkshire, mushrooms from HiFi Mycology, and beans from Rancho Gordo. The restaurant explicitly states a focus on organic and sustainable sourcing as a guiding principle.
