Family-run high desert ranch raising meat goats and beef cattle, with livestock and direct-from-ranch meat available seasonally.
Dry Creek Pastures is a 480-acre family operation on the Utah-Wyoming border, run by rancher and animal scientist Millie Bradshaw. We raise Spanish, Boer, and crossbred meat goats alongside a growing cattle herd on high desert rangeland where the Bear River runs through sub-irrigated meadow before rising into sagebrush country. Breeding does, wethers, and bucks are available seasonally, and wethers are a proven fit for commercial vegetation management. When we raise more beef and goat meat than we can use, it is available direct from the ranch by inquiry. Our three kids have grown up in this life, and the original JS Hopkin Livestock Company brand, registered by Millie's great-grandfather, carries on here. Learn more on their About Page.
All animals are raised on forage in a rotational grazing system behind electric netting, with livestock guardian dogs working around the clock. We select for does that kid unassisted, raise their kids without supplemental feeding, and hold body condition through hard winters, prioritizing optimum performance over maximum yield. Both the goat and cattle herds are managed under a regenerative grazing system designed to build soil, improve forage diversity, and work with the land. The ranch receives roughly 9 inches of precipitation a year and winters that can reach -40 degrees F, so animals are selected specifically for low-input performance in that environment, not for the show ring.
