Member-owned grocery co-op with organic produce, a deli, and hundreds of local Texas vendors.

Wheatsville Food Co-op is a member-owned grocery store founded in 1976. We operate two stores in Austin and carry grocery staples alongside raw, gluten-free, vegan, paleo, and traditional pantry options. Our produce department features over 80% organic selections that change with the seasons. We also run a full deli with made-to-order items available for pick-up. Anyone can shop with us, but members who pay a $15 joining fee and a $55 owner share become part-owners of the co-op. Owners receive exclusive deals, coupons, and a share of profits in sufficiently profitable years as a Patronage Rebate. We have been voted Best Neighborhood Grocery by Austin Chronicle readers more than 15 times since 2007.

We work with local farmers to source seasonal produce, and our produce section is over 80% organic. We stock products from a large network of Texas-based vendors and producers, labeled in-store as Local Connections, covering suppliers within the state. Our local vendor list includes farms, ranchers, dairies, and food makers from the Austin area and across Texas, with each in-store sign sharing a bit of the vendor's history. We believe supporting locally produced goods keeps more spending in the local economy. Our mission, stated on our own site, is to create a self-reliant, self-empowering group of people that promotes a transformation of society toward cooperation, justice, and non-exploitation.
